About
Betsy Senior has over thirty years of experience in the field of contemporary prints. Betsy Senior Fine Art, Inc. was established in 2020 following a successful twenty-year tenure as co-owner with Laurence Shopmaker of Senior & Shopmaker Gallery. Together they established a reputation for intellectually-driven and innovative exhibition programming and catalogues focusing on prints and drawings, and produced notable exhibitions with such artists as Vija Celmins, Alex Katz, Sol Lewitt, Robert Mangold, Thomas Nozkowski, and William Wegman, among many others. Betsy Senior Fine Art continues to provide a platform for the viewing of photographs by William Wegman, and prints from secondary market sources and preeminent publishers such as Simmelink/Sukimoto Editions (California), Paulson Fontaine Press (California), Durham Press (Pennsylvania), and Paragon Press (London), to name a select few. Betsy Senior is the exclusive representative of both the editioned works of Bruce Conner (1933-2008) from the Conner Family Trust, and the prints of Leon Polk Smith (1906-1996), courtesy of the Leon Polk Smith Foundation (www.leonpolksmithfoundation.org). In 2016, she organized the online catalogue raisonné of the prints of Robert Mangold (www.robertmangoldprints.com) and maintains the artist’s 45-year archive of editioned works.
Betsy Senior earned her B.A. in Art History at Stanford University, and opened Betsy Senior Gallery in Soho in 1989 before founding Senior & Shopmaker, Inc. with Larry Shopmaker. She is a member of the International Fine Print Dealers Association (IFPDA), having served as executive vice president from 2014-2018. She serves currently on the National Advisory Council of the Frances Young Tang Teaching Museum, Skidmore College, Saratoga Springs, New York. Former affiliations include the Advisory Committee for the Madison Square Park Art Program, New York; the Board of Governors of the Addison Gallery of American Art, Phillips Academy, Andover, MA; and with Laurence Shopmaker, membership in the Art Dealers Association of America (ADAA).
